Paula is the "nurse mom" of the entire unit. The whole 5 North staff goes to her when we have questions about any and everything from medications to patient care. A few of us have changed the popular "WWJD" to "WWPD" for "What Would Paula Do?" Her education, knowledge, and years of experience have made her the nurse all of us newer nurses hope and strive to be. She sets an example that makes us all want to do better.
On a particularly difficult day, I found myself being brought to tears from stress and discouragement; Paula was right there to comfort and encourage me. She cares deeply for not only her patients, but her co-workers and always stands up for what is right. She is always one of the first to lend a hand when a patient begins to decline, offer to take an admission when the floor is busy, or help handle difficult situations whether it be calling a physician or speaking with frustrated family members or patients.
Paula is not only fun to work with, but she inspires all around her. A nurse and mentor of her caliber deserve all the recognition in the world.
