November 2024 Honoree
Paula Byrne, RN
After a life-changing operation that was necessary at the time of my admission, I spent several days on the ward. While sitting in my bed, I believe Paula sensed that something was wrong and came to sit next to me, asking how I was doing. I broke down, expressing my unhappiness with my stoma and the fact that I hadn’t had time before the operation to come to terms with what I was going to experience.
Paula was very understanding, and we had a meaningful conversation. I decided to go outside for some fresh air, and unexpectedly, not long after, Paula approached me with a drink and sat down with me. She truly showed me human kindness, for which I cannot thank her enough.
Paula is truly an angel and an amazing lady. Paula truly deserves recognition for her kindness and professional nursing. The NHS is lucky to have her.
