Paula Correa, Clinical Manager of the 6 West Tele/Med/Surg Unit, is an expert at "making things happen" for the patients in need. Paula, a great patient advocate and a strong Clinical Manager, was given a "job" to open a 40- plus beds, In-Patient Unit in a classroom during the three different COVID Surges in South Florida. Paula took an education space and quickly converted the area into private bays for Non-COVID patients. The hospital was at critical capacity with COVID Patients. Paula had to provide a safe space for the other patients, non-covid, arriving at Memorial Hospital West in need of care. Paula was given less than 48 hours to make it happen. Paula, understanding the details needed to care for every single patient, set up private bays and tele monitoring for a large population of patients. Paula left nothing out. Every bay had exactly what the patient needed. After the unit was established, Paula had to "staff" the overflow unit. Paula, very respected by her peers and registered nurse staff, was able to find expert Nurses and Patient Care Associates to care for patients. It was pure magic! Paula worked her magic for the benefit and safety of every patient. As you can imagine, Paula received a few patient complaints. Regardless of the situation, Paula handled every patient, and every family with gentleness and kindness as all tried to adjust to the world pandemic. Paula was patient, understanding, and comforted all. Paula, holding strong, led Memorial Hospital West through the crisis of COVID with kindness, dignity, and respect for all patients.
