I was admitted to the transplant ward of the VA Portland Medical Center two times during the month of December 2024. The first time was for my kidney transplant. The second time was for severe nausea and vomiting as I was also struggling to recover from my transplant procedure. During both of my stays in the hospital, Ms. Nett stood out in the nursing services and support she extended to me. During each stay, she treated me with respect and kindness. She has a wonderful sense of humor and a collaborative approach in addressing my needs and concerns. She answered my clinical questions and concerns. If she did not have an answer, she would consult with the medical team for the answer. She encouraged me to get up and walk around the ward because initially, simple light exercises had an impact on my recovery process. When she would see me doing laps, she would applaud my perseverance. I think socializing and laughing with her had a positive effect on my recovery process. She relayed to the doctors’ teams about how excited I was to be discharged. When that time came, she was responsible and always had the discharge paperwork ready. I looked forward to her shift each time she worked.
