Paula Quaresma, RN
Paula was with me from day one when I gave birth to my son! And she was my rock from day one. It was not an easy birth and it certainly wasn’t what I had expected, however, things were a lot better with Paula by our side.
She always gave my husband assurance that she’d take care of me while he would have to go home. She stopped by to make sure I was doing okay and made sure that I was briefed on everything and all my questions were answered, even when she was done for the day. She absolutely went above and beyond in my opinion and made the whole experience incredible for me.
All the nurses in L&D were amazing, but Paula definitely stood out and truly cared for me, and I am sure she cares this much for all her patients. Also, she even tried to take another shift on her day off just to be by my side during my C-section, which didn’t work out! But it’s the thought that counts! I truly appreciated her the whole time.

Out of the many incredible nurses I met during my long and unexpected labor, Paula brought something I didn’t even realize we needed until she walked into the room. From the moment she arrived, she brought energy, positivity, and humor in a way that completely shifted the tone of the day. After hours of labor and a lot of uncertainty, that kind of lightness mattered more than I can put into words. She had a way of making things feel just a little less heavy, without ever losing sight of what was happening.
What stood out most about Paula was how present she was. She didn’t just come in to check my vitals and move on. She would sit down, talk with me and my husband, and really spend time with us. It felt like she genuinely cared about who we were, not just how I was progressing medically. In the middle of a long, exhausting labor, that human connection made such a difference.
Even after her shift ended, Paula’s care didn’t. Our journey extended beyond delivery with a NICU stay and a follow-up surgery, and Paula went out of her way to come check in on both my baby and me. She visited us, asked how we were doing, and made sure we felt supported even after we had left her direct care. That kind of follow-through is so rare and so meaningful.
I had many wonderful nurses throughout this experience, and I’m incredibly grateful for all of them, but Paula brought warmth, humor, and presence that truly stood out. She helped carry us through a really hard and emotional time in a way I will never forget. She is so deserving of this recognition.
