Paula was working while my dad was a patient in ICU. He was assigned a different nurse, but Paula would check in on us occasionally throughout the day. Once it was determined Dad needed to be intubated, Paula noticed concern in my mom's eyes. She visited with her and got to know the situation better. She had Mom sit in the chair by the window, she pulled the other chair right up in front of her and she explained everything to my mom - in a direct but caring way she answered questions and most of all in "a matter of fact" way she calmed Mom's fears and doubt. My mom needed that understanding and reassurance. Paula noticed she needed this and took the time while Dad's nurse and the doctor prepared Dad for the procedure. I appreciate her doing that. Dad coded after the intubation and was flown out. He coded again at Oklahoma City and we lost him. It was so unexpected to us. In all of the questions, I know Mom knew from Paula that Dad needed it and she made the right decision.
