She immediately put me at ease, and through her questions, care, and actions, we knew we were in good hands.
I came to Children’s with my 3-year-old son.  We were transported to Children’s and arrived at 8:30 am on Christmas Day. I was tired, anxious, scared, and, of course, protective of my little boy.  He had been having trouble breathing due to pneumonia and influenza A.  He was totally not himself. Paulina was the first nurse and person to greet us as we arrived. She immediately put me at ease, and through her questions, care, and actions, we knew we were in good hands.  Throughout our stay, she made sure we always had what we needed.  Sometimes, she would just see that I was in distress and knew exactly what I needed.

When the coffee machines were down, she went out of her way to bring me coffee from downstairs - a place I hadn’t tried to venture to with my son because it was too far.  When she found out I was nursing my son, she kindly told me about the voucher for a meal I could get each day.   When I had to go to grab extra clothes because I didn’t know we would have to stay longer, she offered to stay and help my baby find a show he’d watch so he wasn’t upset.  When she saw I needed diapers, she quickly had them, and then she even offered to place items in the refrigerator for me because she knew W wouldn’t always finish his smoothie.

Sometimes you meet people in life at just the right time, and although I hope not to see her soon (because who wants to be at the hospital?!) I would be happy to have her as a nurse if we needed to come back. I’d probably ask to have her. Thank you, Paulina!

Also, whenever W plays with his new remote-controlled car, I will remind him of the coolest nurse we ever had who went to find it for him on Christmas Day.
