Pauline arranged for the anesthetic team to look and reassured me that everything was okay.
I had thyroid surgery. Having had cancer and previous thyroid surgery, I was very nervous. I first saw Pauline when I came from surgery. I was so uncomfortable, and a nurse spotted a rash on my hand. Pauline arranged for the anesthetic team to look and reassured me that everything was okay. I could see she and the others continued to check on me as they passed. They looked after everyone as they came from the theatre. I saw Pauline working with other teams, training the junior staff, and seeing everyone cared for, and those who needed more support got it. I watched her train, coach, support, collaborate, and empower her team by using each skill appropriately with the particular staff member. She went above and beyond showing a nurse how to take my bloods and heaven knows how many steps she would have got in on that shift, amazing nursing. Her relationship with the fabulous surgeons was also strong and positive. An efficient and effective service delivered by a patient-centred team. Well done!
