I am a 91-year-old woman who has a background in the medical profession. I’ve been receiving my care at the VA hospital in Richmond for over 25 years. I have been on the 4th floor in the hospital four times with significant medical issues related to my heart issues. Pauline was my nurse on my third day of bed rest restrictions. She went above and beyond to meet my needs throughout the day. Her special skills were demonstrated when the doctors finally issued discharge orders near the end of her shift. Without hesitation, she began to take care of everything needed to expedite my discharge. She went over my discharge papers with me and my daughter. She repeatedly called the doctor to answer questions we had before discharge, and because it was an after-hours discharge, she even went down to get all of the medicines I needed to go home. She did all of this with a very pleasant attitude without being asked. If I’m ever in the hospital again, I hope Pauline is my nurse.
