My brother was admitted to the hospital on Friday and Pavel was his nurse for four days in a row. When I first met him, it was easy to see his clinical expertise. He was very attentive to my brother’s care and his heart condition.

Being in the hospital environment during a health crisis, surrounded by strangers can certainly be rather scary and unsettling. When we had questions, Pavel had answers and if he didn’t know in the moment, he found out and got back to us quickly. On Sunday, my brother was feeling worse – I was starting to panic or freak out a little. We had not talked to a physician all weekend and Pavel requested a consult with the doctor for us. After talking with the physician, our anxiety was less. As each day passed, I was happy to see that Pavel was on for the day. He was a consistent and friendly face. When a doctor was in the room, I noticed Pavel was usually off to the side, quietly listening to keep up to the minute with plan of care. He would help us understand what the procedures were all about, what to expect during and after.

When the heart rate spiked on the monitor and the alarm went off, Pavel was there. When the time of the procedure was uncertain, and info was delayed from the transition to the new EMR, he was somehow able to find out and narrow down the time. Pavel’s excellent nursing skills, positive attitude, and compassion were appreciated beyond that which words can describe. I felt he treated my brother as he would have cared for his own brother…like family. When counting my blessings, I’m grateful this exceptional RN was on our team and he is most worthy of The DAISY Award!
