I want to recognize Paz Vergara, ED RN, for going above and beyond today: Paz had a patient, a 19-year-old man here from New Jersey, who came in extremely altered after some drinking, possibly spiked. Upon his discharge, the patient was coherent, although he experienced some memory lapses. He did not have his cell phone to contact friends he had traveled with, and he could not remember where he was staying in Fort Lauderdale. The patient stated that he had an Instagram account but could not remember his password or account information. Paz proceeded to go on her own Instagram account, where she messaged some of the patient's friends. One friend from New Jersey responded, who then contacted the patient's traveling companion down here. Subsequently, the local friend came to the hospital, and the patient was safely discharged to their care. This illustrated dedication to patient safety and care is not a one-off for Paz, as I routinely see her go the extra mile while she treats all patients as if they were her own family. I am truly honored to have Paz on our team.
