The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) has experienced a unique staffing challenge with the combination of high acuity in recent months. The entire team has risen to the challenge, and we unified as a Heart Center team. Nurses from the OR, cath lab, and sedated ECHO have assisted in the CVICU by providing direct patient care. The nurses and nursing assistants in the CVICU have worked countless hours of overtime to fill deficits so that we can continue to provide the best care to our patients and families. Through all of the challenges, everyone has remained focused on the ultimate goal, our patients, and have selflessly given the very best from within themselves. The team has shown dedication and commitment to the cardiac program, patients, and families, which is nothing short of amazing. Each person brings a distinct piece to the very intricate puzzle known as the Heart Center, and without each individual piece, we could not accomplish what we do every day. The definition of teamwork is: work that is done with each person doing their part to the efficiency of the whole. The Heart Center demonstrates that exact definition of teamwork every single day and in the face of challenges finds solutions.
