Pediatric Hematology and Oncology recently had a patient, who has since passed, who was unable to attend her Make a Wish Day due to her illness. The patient had a long and difficult road with her cancer and was placed on palliative care. She spoke very little English and her family was Spanish-speaking only.
A Pediatric Hematology and Oncology staff member wrote, "I want to send a thank you to Dan McKeone, Katie Hissick, Teresa Stewart, Haley Davis and Cristen Hemstead for helping our patient have a wonderful Make a Wish Day. This morning, I was told Make a Wish was bringing movies, snacks, decorations, and a bunch of friends for a movie party. Katie and Haley located a room in the Children's Hospital that was large enough for this special event. They decorated the room, arranged the furniture, and set up the snacks. Dan set up the movies to play on the big screen. Teresa managed staffing so that Cristen and I could be with the patient to maintain patient safety. Teresa checked on us multiple times and brought extra oxygen and supplies. Thanks to everyone, the patient had a wonderful movie party with thirty-five of her closest friends and family. She looked so happy and her family was so thankful for this special time with their beloved little girl. I am so happy we were able to do this for her."
