My family's story is quite unusual! We are form the United Kingdom and my 9 month old daughter P (along with myself and my husband) were airlifted to Salah Foundation Children's Hospital from St. Maartans as my daughter had contracted meningitis while on a Caribbean cruise. P was critically ill having developed sepsis also.
I sit here today, 2 months later, it is our last day at the PICU unit here at Salah Foundation Children's Hospitals, P is well enough to fly home! P has been through the most horrific times, gone through multiple surgeries, and suffered life-changing injuries, however, she has gone from strength to strength!
I have tears in my eyes! What should be a very happy day (as we get to go home after such a long time) has been the most emotional! We owe P's life to the staff here! They have been nothing short of amazing! They have cared for P like she was their own, showed such love, care, and compassion to her, and have played the most vital role in her recovery.
The kindness that they have displayed to us as a family is so unbelievably incredible! They have not only cared for P but me and my husband also. They have brought us food, done our laundry, brought us gifts, and generally treated us like family. I will never ever be able to repay the staff here. I believe we were truly blessed that P was brought here to Salah Foundation Children's Hospital and to the PICU. This has been such a horrific time for us as a family but the love and support we have received from the PICU team has provided us with so much strength.
We are indebted to them.
