During the month of October 2013, the Nurse Recognition Council received an unprecedented 13 nominations for various direct care nurses who all worked in the same unit. The unit was Pediatric Oncology Treatment Area.
Nominations came from all sources, including patients, patients' parents, physicians, and colleagues. All the stories were based around the compassionate care of the nurses in the unit, with patients requesting nurses they recognized and remembered.
The quality of care being delivered in Pediatric Oncology Treatment Area was apparent to everybody, and it was decided that the entire unit should be awarded the DAISY award for the month of October 2013.
