In post-op, they brought him a bear, balloon, and some toys to keep. He couldn't wait to show his older cousin.
The entire Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team always makes our son feel special. This isn't our first visit to the PACU and I am sure it won't be our last. Every encounter with every staff member is always a memorable one. I myself as a nurse know how a few moments with a patient can greatly impact them and their experience. As a 3-year-old, my son is not a fan of medical staff. However, the team addresses him, talks to him, and includes him. Even at the age of 3, he wants to be involved in his care. This is exactly what they do. They talk to him, tell him what to expect, what they are doing and they do it so kindly each time. He builds trust and to this day tells me about "the hospital". Our most recent visit was 3 days prior to his 4th birthday. Not only did everyone wish him a happy birthday, but they went above and beyond to try to make this hospital visit a positive one. In post-op, they brought him a bear, balloon, and some toys to keep. He couldn't wait to show his older cousin. "The hospital gave it to me." He sleeps with his bear every day. Previously he would tell me "mommy I don't like your friends, they put a stick up my nose." Now, he tells me your friends put a stick up my nose, but they are fun. I have the greatest respect for the nurses and love the entire PACU team. You guys have a hard job, but do it with pride, a smile and so effortlessly.
