July 2026 Honoree
Pennie Johnson, RN
I was faced with a tough decision on getting a C-section or waiting to try a vaginal birth after a crisis situation. She gave me all the information I needed to make a decision without pushing me one way or the other.
When I made the choice she backed me up 100% and offered reassurance. She helped me feel like a normal person after my surgery, talked to me and was a true friend. She went above and beyond with my care, always being one step ahead of my needs.
Lastly, I was struggling with my mental health towards the end of my stay. Pennie stayed an hour past her shift to comfort me and make sure I was okay. I will never forget how she sacrificed her time to help me.
She is one of the few people I felt actually cared about me and how I was doing. She helped a very traumatic experience become a beautiful reminder of the strength I have in me. I will never forget her kindness and the love she showed towards me as a stranger.
