Penny Odum took care of my Dad who was a patient for two months on her unit. He was restrained most of this time because of confusion. Many nights she sat with dad explaining over and over why he was in the hospital. One night she removed the restraints and let him move his arms. He looked at her and despite his trach mouthed the words "I love you". Another night he was given a piece of paper so he could write. He asked where his wife was. It was explained that she had gone home to rest and she would be back. The note was given to his wife the next morning and it meant so much to her. Another night he was given a mirror so he could see the tubes and she explained everything again. When Penny was taking care of dad, I knew he was in good hands. She shaved him including trimming his nose hairs! She was always willing to take time with me and my sisters. There are so many amazing nurses on this unit but Penny's extra efforts have been pretty special!
