A patient came to Wellstar Paulding needing urgent surgery. This patient was an elderly gentleman that had never had surgery before and was very anxious about his procedure. He was also very upset, as this would be the first year in over 20 years that he would not be able to run the Peachtree Roadrace. He lived out of town and was here visiting specifically to run the race. While the patient was in surgery, Dondra and Nancy printed out the t-shirt logo for the 2022 Peachtree Roadrace. They colored the logo and attached it to a pillowcase. After the surgery was complete and the patient had recovered, they gave him the pillowcase so even though he wasn’t present at the race, he was still able to get his “t-shirt” and feel a part of the festivities. This act of kindness exemplifies our motto of Neighbors Caring for Neighbors and truly shows our nurses providing holistic care for the patient. They not only cared for his physical needs but his emotional needs as well. The patient told both nurses that he would be back to see them when he was feeling better.
