Perla Sanchez has always been a compassionate nurse. She really takes the time to listen and talk to her patients. She makes them feel comfortable, even when they are going through some of the most difficult times of their lives. One instance in particular that struck me, however, was when she came to work 45 minutes early to cut a patient's hair who has been in our unit for 2 months. The patient had been inquiring about a haircut for about a week, but none of the other nurses had theskill set to cut his hair the way he wanted.
Perla is a licensed beautician and still does hair on the side, and she was kind enough to bring her own equipment to do a little extra to make this patient feel a little more normal. I know the patient and his family really appreciated her going above and beyond for him.
