Pete was compassionate, understanding, caring, and always was looking out for me and my recovery and health.
I cannot begin to express how fantastic of a nurse Peter is. Peter goes above and beyond in his care every day. He treats every patient he comes across like they are a member of his family. He puts in the extra time to make them feel special and seen. It is not uncommon that patients will request Peter back as their nurse the following day. They describe him as compassionate, caring, patient, knowledgeable, and an overall excellent nurse. There are several times that Pete has gone above and beyond in his care and to narrow it down to just one moment is difficult.

One of Peter’s patients wrote about her appreciation of Peter’s care. “Pete was compassionate, understanding, caring, and always was looking out for me and my recovery and health.”

Not only has Peter been invaluable to our patients but he has been a true asset to our unit. NT8 has experienced so many highs and lows over the past few years but Peter’s fantastic care, infectious positivity, and drive to always do his best have remained constant. During one of our unit’s lowest times of being short-staffed, Pete picked up countless numbers of extra shifts to ease the burden. Not only would he pick up on the unit when we were short, but he would also take shifts for others who had family commitments or emergencies. He serves as a charge nurse and preceptor and is seen as a role model to not only the newer staff but to our experienced staff as well. Peter will step up to the plate each shift, volunteering to help anyone who needs it even if that means just being willing to listen when someone is having a hard day. Seeing Peter on a shift provides immediate relief as you know you will have his support throughout the entire day.

A peer wrote “Peter came in on his day off to train me in as a charge nurse. He showed up prepared with a checklist and was very thorough. Charge training doesn’t normally include this, but Peter wanted to make sure that I was taught right. I would not be where I am in my career without him.”

I have the honor of nominating him for this award on behalf of multiple nurses from NT8. Peter is a true DAISY Nurse.
