I was recently a patient at Indian River Medical Center and had cardiac surgery there. I remained in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for four days post-surgery. During those four plus days in ICU, my wife and I met Peter La Porta, RN, who was my nurse for several of those days, including the very first night when our stress level and anxiety were perhaps the highest. Mr. La Porta was always both professional and sympathetic to our needs and worries. He exemplifies what is best about the medical profession and a credit to IRMC.
