Petra is an outstanding nurse, case manager, and team member. She is a role model who leads by example. She’s a preceptor, orienting new hires to be successful and productive team members who provide quality patient care with positive outcomes. Petra takes great care of the nurses she precepts. She has great discernment when a new nurse is struggling or ready to start taking cases on their own. She takes responsibility for making sure they are prepared and spends a lot of extra time with them over and above expectations. She develops a good rapport with her nurses so they feel comfortable reaching out once they are on their own, and she continues to be available to mentor them. Petra is assertive as needed for her patients and speaks respectfully when she has issues or concerns. She delivers competent and compassionate care on a daily basis. In addition, she is an advocate for her patients, making sure they receive the appropriate level of care and services. She doesn’t pass off her difficult or complex patients to other nurses but instead keeps them for herself so there are no lapses in care received. Petra accepts feedback without becoming defensive and works on improving her skills, documentation and patient care based on the feedback received. Her years of experience, expertise, and critical thinking skills contribute to her ability to case manage her patients and make a positive impact on them. She is a joy to work with, and the VNA is fortunate to have Petra as one of their nurses, team member, and employee.

A patient complimented, "Was very satisfied with the nurse; she was an excellent nurse; her name is Petra, solid as a rock, she's the best!" I had the pleasure of speaking with the patient. The patient shared he is very pleased with the care he has been receiving from Petra. The patient had been sent to the emergency room due to complications with his wound. Upon returning home, he was unsure how he was to care for his wound because the discharge papers weren’t clear. Petra made multiple calls to obtain the correct orders and instructed him on some. He was very grateful.
