He is one of the most easy-going, flexible and caring charge nurses that I have worked with. He respects our individual personalities and actively listens to our needs and suggestions as a team leader.
Philip Marchese has outstanding nursing leadership skills as an ANCC and a compassionate personality as a bedside nurse. Night shift of PACU can turn into an overwhelming shift because patients need to board on the unit while waiting for admission to inpatient units after surgery, and less night nurses are scheduled to work compared to the day shift when reduced surgery cases are planned in the evening. Philip always comes ahead of his shift, reviews the census of the unit with the day charge nurse, and quickly organizes patient assignments for his evening and night crews. He is one of the most easy-going, flexible and caring charge nurses that I have worked with. He respects our individual personalities and actively listens to our needs and suggestions as a team leader. He prioritizes evening nurses to complete their entire breaks when it gets busy in the day. Although he has his own patient assignment, he will still check on us frequently, ensure we are not left alone and he will be our resource person if desired. When the night shift becomes especially short-staffed, he is willing to come to help out the unit on his unscheduled shifts. Following the chain of command, Phillip communicates effectively with the admitting department and escalates immediately to nursing supervisors as necessary to decompress the patient loads at PACU. He stays calm and optimistic to handle all the challenging situations no matter how tough the shift could be. I appreciate his generosity as he often takes the roles of a unit clerk or patient escort in order to make the unit function smoothly. At the bedside, Philp tries to accommodate the requests of each patient, not to mention he always promotes patient safety and comfort. Thanks, Philip, for your dedication at PACU. I believe you chose the most challenging but most rewarding calling.
