Philip Merritt embodies what it truly means to be a compassionate, servant-hearted nurse leader. As our Emergency Department Manager, Director of Nursing for the ED, and leader of our freestanding department, he carries an extraordinary level of responsibility and wears more hats than most-yet he handles each role with integrity, accessibility, and unwavering dedication.

In one of the busiest Level I trauma settings, he consistently ensures safe staffing, access to equipment and technology, and the maintenance of the highest standards of patient care. When we are short, he does not hesitate to stay late or step in to support the team, demonstrating that leadership for him is action, not title.

He fosters an environment built on trust, compassion, mutual respect, and professional growth, encouraging critical thinking while advocating fiercely for our needs to organizational leadership. Philip is always present, always responsive, and always willing to show up for his team-no matter the circumstance.
