I feel that his quick response and noticing mom’s change in condition saved her life!
Being a healthcare worker and having a parent in the hospital can be a stressful time. However, Phillip J. Henson was my mom’s Nurse for more than one shift while she was in the ICU. Mom is healthy with the exception of having dementia. She fell and fractured her ribs and separated her shoulder then two days later was admitted to MBC ICU with COVID Pneumonia. Phillip was her Nurse and provided excellent care with a gentle touch. However, the day that stands out was when my mom began having difficulty breathing, color change, and change in level of consciousness. Earlier that morning, Phillip had come up to mom’s room to visit her and see how she was doing. They interacted and he said she was doing good. When mom began to deteriorate, I immediately thought of Phillip and asked for him to come to mom’s room. Upon his arrival to mom’s room, he quickly noticed the difference in her state and told the team to call a “Rapid Response”. The team arrived to care for mom, and she was transferred back to ICU. Phillip made sure that he updated me on what was occurring and mom’s status. Certainly, with the events of the day I wanted to stay close to mom that evening and night. My friends wanted me to go home and shower and eat and then return. I told them that I couldn’t leave mom. Phillip heard this conversation and said that he would keep an eye on mom while I went home and that he would stay after his shift if needed until I got back. Wow – this was unreal! I am very thankful for Phillip and the ICU Team for the care that they provided my mom. I knew when Phillip was there that he would take great care of mom and would call me if needed. I feel that his quick response and noticing mom’s change in condition saved her life! After mom was discharged from the hospital, he came to visit her at the rehab hospital. My family will never forget him!
