Phoebe must be the greatest labor and delivery nurse there has ever been. My husband and I are convinced that my delivery would not have gone as desired if Phoebe wasn't my nurse that night. I wanted to deliver my baby without pain medication. Phoebe took notes and paid special attention to all of our desires for the delivery and right after. She asked questions and clarified when she wasn't sure of our exact desires. When it came to the intensity of labor, she coached my husband and me through every step of the process making us feel like we had as much control as possible throughout. Her experience as a doula is unquestionably highly valued and extremely important in such a position. When I delivered our baby, the attending physician hadn't quite made it in the room. Phoebe knew it'd be soon, so she called the charge nurse for an extra hand. Phoebe caught our baby as I was standing for delivery.
After delivery, I was in excruciating pain due to an arterial tear repair. She asked me questions about my pain and correctly assumed I had a hematoma. I felt like her empathy for my pain was unmatched as she witnessed my delivery without medication. She did all she could to calm me down and make me feel taken care of. She got the attending physician to me as quickly as possible as well as medication to manage the pain. I needed to go into surgery and she stayed by my side throughout. At that point, I considered her family as my husband couldn't be with me. I am certain I am not the only patient Phoebe has touched in this way. She is truly amazing, St. Luke's is lucky to have her.
