August 2026 Honoree
Phung Ngo, BSN, RN
I would like to nominate Phung for the DAISY Award because she consistently exemplifies the very best of nursing through her compassion, selflessness, leadership, and unwavering commitment to both her patients and her team. Every day, she lives out our hospital's values of Accountability, Leadership, Willingness, Attitude, You First, and Safety.
Phung has a remarkable ability to make every patient feel like they are the most important person in the room. During patient rounds, I consistently hear patients describe her as kind, compassionate, and incredibly attentive. Many have shared that she cared for them as if they were family. She takes the time to build genuine relationships with her patients AND their loved ones, making them feel seen, heard, and valued throughout their hospital stay. One experience that truly captures the heart of who Phung is involved a patient from Vietnam who had been missing traditional pho. After finishing her shift, Phung took the time to personally bring the patient a bowl of pho. It was a simple gesture, but it meant the world to the patient. She was overwhelmed with gratitude that someone would go out of their way to provide not only comfort, but a meaningful reminder of home during a difficult time. It was an extraordinary act of kindness that demonstrates the compassion
Phung brings to every patient she cares for.
Phung also formed a special bond with another patient whose sons were deeply involved in their mother's care. Through her genuine compassion and exceptional communication, she earned their complete trust. They often said Phung felt like family and believed she cared for their mother as if she were her own. That level of connection can't be taught; it comes from a truly caring heart.
Beyond the exceptional care she provides to her patients, Phung is an extraordinary leader and teammate. She is one of the most dependable nurses on our night shift and is always willing to step in whenever help is needed. Recently, after a no-call/no-show left the unit significantly short-staffed during a very heavy shift, Phung immediately came in to help without hesitation. Her willingness to support her team speaks volumes about her character.
Phung never waits to be asked for help. If she notices a nurse falling behind on medications, she steps in to help. If she sees a patient needing assistance, she is already there before anyone has to ask. She consistently anticipates the needs of both her patients and her coworkers, creating an environment where everyone feels supported.
Even during the busiest and most stressful shifts, Phung remains calm, positive, and encouraging. She is truly the calm in the storm. Her steady presence reassures both patients and staff. She leads by example, inspires those around her, and creates a culture of teamwork and compassion.
Phung embodies everything the DAISY Award represents. She combines exceptional clinical care with genuine compassion, selfless service, and extraordinary kindness. She not only changes her patients' lives but also strengthens and uplifts everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her. She more than deserves this recognition, and I cannot think of anyone who better exemplifies the heart of nursing than Phung.
