November 2024 Honoree
Phydilla Gimbel, RN
I want to nominate Phy because I feel safe when she is around. Being a nurse is a hard job, and there isn’t a day that goes by when she doesn’t provide the best care. Phy cares A LOT, and anyone who works with her can see that. Whenever I have to call a rapid, Phy is always figuring it out and being supportive at the same time. I will never forget when I had to call two rapids at the same time and felt very overwhelmed about not being able to care for both patients. Phy not only taught me the importance of triaging when that happens, but she also took the time to teach me what was going on physiologically, which helped me understand how I could intervene in the future. As a new grad, calling rapids can be scary because you don’t know what to do next, and you don’t want the team around you to think you are incapable of doing your job. Phy never makes me feel that way, which has made me feel more confident in the care I give, which ultimately improves patient outcomes. I truly don’t think Phy gets recognized enough for how much she does for patients and the nurses around her. When I grow into an experienced nurse, I hope I can be half the nurse she is.
Thank you, Phydilla, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
