Our story starts with our daughter, J 24 years old, being admitted to the Cooper Cardiac Care Unit. J was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolism. J's condition was stable throughout the night as doctors and nurses administered the necessary drugs and treatment. However, the next morning J's conditioned worsen at nurses shift change. It was at this time that Phyllis Mazzullo RN used all her skills and abilities to keep J's breathing under control. The oxygen dosage that she was receiving had to be increased to 100% and an additional oxygen mask placed on her to help her breathe. J was also starting to have heart problems due to the restriction in her lungs. Phyllis monitored and helped J as if she was her only patient. During the course of the day, J received a TPA treatment to help remove her lung clots. Phyllis continued to be J's nurse as J's condition improved enough for her to leave the Cardiac Care Unit. J's original problem started with blood clots forming in her leg, due to an injury that did not improve. J still had clots in her right leg and the condition of her leg was getting worse. J's leg and foot were swelling more and more throughout the day. J was scheduled for a thrombectomy the next day, but we became more and more concerned about J's leg and foot because it was getting almost impossible to confirm a pulse below her ankle. My wife decided to seek out Phyllis who thankfully happened to be working that day. The doctor looked at J's chart and saw that J was scheduled for a thrombectomy the next day and collaborated with the doctor from the Cardiac Care Unit. We're grateful for her dedication to her patients and of course especially to our daughter J.
