Our father was recently rushed into the Piedmont Hospital in Macon, GA, as he had a fever, was vomiting, and was having a very hard time breathing. He has metastatic mucosal melanoma, and regrettably, the disease has progressed at an alarming rate. In such a state, patient care is critical- as is family care.

We are writing to commend to you the entire team of your Progressive Care Unit- nurses, techs, housekeepers, everyone. The team of nurses was extremely knowledgeable and gave our father an unmatched level of care and support. While we fully appreciate that it is their job to care for patients, the level of kindness and compassion was something we did not expect. What was even more impressive was the fact that they extended the same level of care to my mother, sister, and myself.

While we recognize the entire team, there were a few standouts: Shea Calloway, Carlie Lowe, Katie Weum, and Hannah Ujfalusy who were always going the extra distance to keep our father comfortable. And when we had to make the tough decision as a family to stop treatment and move him to home hospice, Shea and Carlie were there to hold our mother, cry with her, and assure her that she would have all the help and support she would need in this difficult transition. That was a defining moment- their instinctual need to care for all who suffer took our breath away.

We were blessed to have Shea with us on our last day there, helping speed up his discharge and lining things up to smooth out our trip home. Again, thank you for the incredible team from a most grateful family.
