Piya takes care of every patient and their families like they are her own. "Piya was caring for a patient who required an emergency cesarean section. Piya stayed with the husband while they rushed his wife to the operating room. Piya stayed by his side to keep him calm and explain what was going. After Piya went home, the patient's situation became even more critical including blood loss, transfusions, and transfer to the Intensive Care Unit. When Piya returned the next morning, the patient's husband ran to Piya, held her, cried, and shared the details of his wife's emergency situation.
Piya visited the patient every day that she was in the ICU. When the patient was transferred back to Labor & Delivery, Piya was their nurse again. She pampered Mom, Dad, and now a newborn baby. After the patient was in the hospital for almost a week, she started to improve. Although Piya was caring for the patient physically and emotionally, she took it a step further. For a mental boost, she arranged to take the patient outside in a wheelchair. The patient was very happy with Piya's actions to take her outside after a long hospitalization for a very dramatic and scary situation. Several months later, the patient, her husband, and the baby came back to visit Piya to tell her how much they appreciated her care.

Piya is always pleasant and understanding. Her relationships, yes, relationships with her patients are unparalleled among our nursing unit. She evokes comfort and trust from her patients. As a provider, I trust her wholeheartedly with our patients. Her superb skills, appropriate communication, and positive patient outcomes make her an asset on any day to any unit. I call her the "baby whisperer".
