Priscilla Reed exemplifies the type of nurse the Barnes Family was seeking to recognize when they created the DAISY award. In the words of one of her patient's mothers, she provides a level of compassion and comfort that helped her and her son to manage through a very difficult time.

Priscilla was amazing! My 23-year-old son was brought in as a trauma from an accidental gunshot wound. A very scary experience for him and I. Priscilla was a phenomenal teacher, advocate and very approachable with questions. On day 3 we were told he could not go home because he needed another 24 hours of IV antibiotics. When Priscilla came in, she was going over my son's medications as she did every night and informed him that he was no longer receiving IV antibiotics. What? This was the solitary reason we were still there! My son and I were very upset. Was he going to have to stay another 24 hours because of the doctor's mistake?
Not with Priscilla, the patient advocate, as his nurse. Not on her shift! She immediately notified the appropriate physician and obtained the order to restart my son's antibiotic IV and made certain the next dose was as soon as possible. He had already missed a dose that the day nurse didn't "catch" it. If not for Priscilla we would have had a longer stay and my son would have missed these vital antibiotic doses.
Priscilla is the reason those events didn't happen! She deserves this DAISY Award because she is compassionate, smart, relentless, caring and willing to stand up for her patients and treat them as if they were her own family. She even said to my son, "You could be my son and I would want him treated the same way". Thank you, Priscilla, and thank you Crozer for choosing her! Priscilla makes a difference.
