Priscilla saw us, the family members overwhelmed, the wife tearful, and very concerned with the lack/confusion of information shared with us; she demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills between doctors, family, and patient. Among other things, she called a few of the doctors because we were receiving conflicting information from one doctor to another, which created stress, confusion, and overwhelming feelings about veterans’ health. She did an exceptional job using her leadership to become a facilitator between medical specialist staff and family members' communication. Her interpreting significantly improved the teamwork collaboration, clarifying the treatment plans and, therefore, making a difference for us, the family members, and the patient. Sometimes, doctors lose perspective of family/vet needs. A nurse made sure doctors themselves came to provide clarification and emotional support with diagnosis, treatment plans, and expectations.
