My mother broke her hip and was sent to rehab. This whole situation was incredibly stressful for our family. I was forced to trust strangers with my precious mother and that was not an easy thing to do. Puga took my breath away with the manner in which he connected with my mother. He was so thorough in his care for her, so professional, so informative and reassuring. My mother improved every time he came on duty. His eyes were everywhere when he worked. This hospital is fortunate to employ Puga and thank God for him and the way he took care of my mother.

Nurse leaders describe Puga as a "strong force on the Acute Rehab Unit, one who is dedicated to his calling with an insatiable hunger for excellence". His peers look up to him and appreciate his helpfulness. He competently and willingly performs the tasks of a Certified Nurse's Aide, bedside Nurse and Charge Nurse; basically, doing whatever is needed to ensure excellence. "That is not my job" are not words in Puga's vocabulary. Whenever he is given an assignment, he puts his whole heart and soul into it. He can be boisterous, and has been described as a fun loving prankster with a heart of gold.
We acknowledge Puga for exhibiting the entire list of DAISY attributes:
Making a special connection with patient and with their family members
Including family members in patients care plans
Delivering outstanding education
Collaborating to meet the patient and family member needs
Going above and beyond the call of duty
Providing individualized, compassionate care
Striving to achieve excellence.
