Queenie is an exceptional nurse who pays close attention to detail and ensures that best care practices are implemented on a daily basis. Queenie recently cared for a patient with a PICC line and upon removal, the PICC line measured length was different from the recorded length documented. As she noted this, she knew that proper policy and procedure dictate that a chest x-ray must be ordered to ensure no retained parts are in the patient’s system. She notified the provider and requested a chest x-ray. However, the provider felt it was unnecessary to obtain this additional step. Although it was a small discrepancy in measurement, Queenie felt bothered by the situation. She went back to the provider and explained the policy and obtained the order for the chest x-ray. Thankfully, there were no fragments from the PICC line in the patient upon review of the chest x-ray. Queenie’s persistence and advocacy to ensure the safety of the patient and prevent a potential complication display both her professionalism, attention to detail, reluctance to simplify processes, and care she puts forth to her patients.
