Quynh is a very exceptional nurse. Her caring, compassion, and empathy for her patients is to be admired.
My son H was hospitalized at Texas Children's for 12 days. We had many competent caregivers take care of my son during that time but there was one who stood out and outshined them all and her name was Quynh Luu. From the first day of her coming into our room, we knew she was special. My son had a very bad night, and she came into the room introduced herself, and explained what the plan was for the day in detail. This helped put both a sleep-deprived patient and parent at ease.
Quynh also asked him about his pain and told him what was available and sought his input. She brought pain medication promptly and followed up with him to how it was working. When the pain medication began to wane, she offered and brought warm packs to help him. We appreciated her attention to his pain so much.
She was also a great advocate for us with physicians when we had questions or concerns. We had a rocky road at times, and this allowed us to feel we were being heard. My son was so relieved to see her when she took care of us on subsequent days. He felt he could trust her. Not an easy task for a sick teen. Quynh is a very exceptional nurse. Her caring, compassion, and empathy for her patients is to be admired. I have been a nurse for 27 years and you do not find nurses of her caliber often. She is a true nursing treasure.
When I returned to work after my son's discharge imagine my surprise at seeing Quynh floated to my unit. I observed her quickly moving to care for her patients on my unit. Even though she was floated to an unfamiliar unit I observed those same traits she had demonstrated while caring for my son. Even though she was busy I observed her asking me and the other nurses if they needed help. She is the type of nurse everyone should aspire to be. Every parent at Texas Children's would be blessed to have a nurse like Quynh.
