Rachael is the Morton Plant Hospital Emergency Department Assistant Nurse Manager. She does the unit scheduling around team members' school/family commitments and encourages continuing education and work-life balance. She is a teacher, mentor and full-fledged cheerleader for our department. Racheal portrays our BayCare values daily, but today she set an excellent example of Dignity and Respect that we are very proud of. We had an elderly patient arrive via EMS in full arrest. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at our ED. When the son arrived, he was told of his father's passing. The son asked for a Rabbi and was advised that Morton Plant Hospital did not have a Rabbi that made hospital rounds. The son seemed unsatisfied with the interdenominational pastoral care that we were able to provide. He was visibly upset and divulged that although his father had fallen away from his Jewish faith, he and his family would have wanted the necessary prayers and pre-burial rituals performed. Rachael volunteered to speak to the son of this patient. She assured him that after he said goodbye to his father, she would perform the cleansing bath herself and say the prayers of the dead taught to her by her own family at an early age. I know that son left with a sense of peace, knowing that his father would have been glad that his religious preferences had been honored. Thank you, Rachael, for "being BayCare."
