I would like to recognize my colleague, Rachael Golden, because she is truly an essential member of our team and one of the most compassionate pediatric oncology nurses I have had the privilege to work alongside. Although she may not always receive the recognition she deserves, the impact she has on our patients, families, and staff is immeasurable.

She consistently provides exceptional care to our pediatric oncology patients with kindness, patience, and attention to detail. She goes above and beyond to ensure that every patient and family feels supported during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. She not only delivers excellent clinical care, but she also brings comfort, reassurance, and genuine compassion to every interaction.

She always thinks several steps ahead, ensuring that families have the education, resources, medications, and follow-up they need before leaving the hospital. Her organization and thoroughness prevent problems before they arise and help families feel confident and cared for.

She is also an incredible advocate for her fellow nurses. She creates an environment where we feel supported, heard, and comfortable going to her with questions or concerns. She is always willing to help, mentor, and step in whenever needed, no matter how busy she is herself.

I feel incredibly honored to have worked alongside her and am deeply grateful for everything she has taught me throughout my nursing career. When I was a newer nurse, I looked up to her and aspired to be the kind of nurse she is — compassionate, knowledgeable, calm under pressure, and endlessly dedicated to her patients and coworkers.

She leads by example every single day, and I know I am a better nurse because of her mentorship and support. If I ever had a child needing care, she is without a doubt the nurse I would want caring for them.

Her clinical skill, compassion, advocacy, and dedication embody everything the DAISY Award represents. Our patients, families, and staff are all better because of her.

Thank you, Rachael, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
