Racheal Lincoln is an ED Tech on the night shift in the Emergency Dept. Upon coming into work and receiving my report at 7 a.m., I noticed two children in a room who were not patients. They were the grandchildren of a patient being seen. After multiple attempts at contacting the children's parents with no success, Racheal decided to step up and care for them herself. Racheal set aside a room in the ED, made a bed with warm blankets, provided stuffed animals, gathered up coloring books and crayons and snacks for these two children, so that they were not in the room while their grandmother was being treated. Their grandmother could not appropriately care for her grandchildren and Racheal noticed this and provided an outlet for them so they would not be traumatized. At 7:00 a.m., when the cafeteria opened, Racheal went upstairs and bought the children breakfast on her own "dime." Racheal stayed past her scheduled shift time to make sure the children were not forgotten about. While caring for the children, Racheal was also providing excellent care to the actual patient and kept her calm and updated her about her grandchildren. Racheal shared her skills, compassion, and was definitely a role model for all that morning!
