Rachel was completely professional, competent, and knowledgeable, but in such a warm, funny, and personal way that I felt as if I had known her for a long time.
I would LOVE to nominate Rachel Gural, ER nurse at Cobleskill Regional Hospital, who took a very scary and dark situation for me and for my husband as well, and with the most loving, caring, funny, and compassionate care I could ever have hoped for in an ER (where NOBODY wants to find themselves) made the experience as positive as it could have possibly been.

I fractured my ankle (broken in many places) two days before we were to leave our NY camp and head down to our new condo in North Carolina. After two years of planning, selling, moving STUFF, and so much more….the finish line was finally in sight…and I knew that what I had done had sent me and my husband back to the middle of the course. Having Rachel as my nurse that night helped me not only physically but especially emotionally! Rachel was completely professional, competent, and knowledgeable, but in such a warm, funny, and personal way that I felt as if I had known her for a long time. As we waited for me to receive the medication prior to reducing my fracture (nerve-wracking), she chatted calmly with me and my husband, asking me questions about me as a person and sharing some stories herself. She put me COMPLETELY at ease. When I remarked that she OBVIOUSLY LOVED HER JOB, she related how much she loved working at THIS ER in such a genuine way. Rachel was absolutely and always resourceful and organized. When we arrived in the ER, there were already four patients waiting, and within an hour or two, at least four or five more came in. There was getting to be a backlog, but thankfully, everyone was patient. Rachel arrived, saw the crowd, and immediately began getting people evaluated quickly and efficiently. I knew from our first interaction that she was a take-charge kind of person and that I was in good hands! While I was waiting to have a closed reduction for my tibial dislocation, I was, of course, nervous and in some pain.

Rachel was at my side frequently, explaining what would happen in a way that didn’t make me MORE nervous, making sure I was warm and as comfortable as possible, and reassuring me about how skilled the doctor who would perform the procedure was. I was SO COMFORTED by her in what could have been, for me, a scary situation. Rachel was THERE for me at all times and made me feel as if I was her only patient…although I know that wasn’t true.
