Rachel not only brings her nursing skills to the table each and every shift, but she also brings additional compassion, empathy, and kindness to the unit and shares it with every patient that she cares for. There isn’t just one example to present where she demonstrates the qualities that make her deserving of this award. She is an exemplary nurse and ideal teammate. She checks in on her co-workers; jumping in to help whenever needed. She shares her knowledge with nursing students and new staff. Rachel makes her patients as comfortable as possible - she bought lip balm for a patient from the gift shop when the unit was out, brought a slice of cake to her patient on their birthday, brought cupcakes for the entire unit to celebrate her orientee's birthday, and brought dietary staff a treat from our unit to recognize them. If a patient is transferred to another unit, she visits them on her next shift. She does these things because she is a kind and caring person.
