Suffering a stroke at any age warrants optimum medical attention, but my 99-year-old mother’s needs went beyond that. Her emotional well-being was definitely fragile. When Rachel introduced herself, it was wonderful to see a smiling face and an upbeat personality. She brightened up the room! It was obvious that we could trust Rachel during our most challenging time. She communicated, listened, and helped us relax and even laugh! She was patient as Mom struggled with her words and did not dismiss her efforts to communicate. In essence, she was the caring and empathetic nurse my mom needed to feel safe and less overwhelmed. Rachel recognized that Mom’s confusion, fears, and concerns were critically important to address in order to enhance her healing and comfort. She genuinely cared about all aspects of Mom’s well-being. It is an honor to nominate Rachel for much-deserved recognition. She is the ultimate professional who truly touches the lives of her patients. It is clearly evident that Rachel is an awesome leader who possesses knowledge and expertise and provides quality patient care in all areas of need. All patients and their loved ones should be as lucky as Mom to experience Rachel’s care as their nurse.
