I had a difficult patient who quickly became violent and combative towards staff. Extra staff was needed, and security was called. Rachel was charge during the event, and she gave me full support; she stuck by my patient's room and made appropriate phone calls while I continued to provide care for the patient. She checked on my other patient for me and completed a few tasks while I was busy. Rachel remained calm in the absolute chaos and guided me through all the documentation that was required post-incident. When things calmed down, she rounded on all the staff members involved to make sure no one was injured. She stayed late after shift with me while I filled everything out. She debriefed with me and provided positive feedback on how I handled the situation and how there wasn't much that could have been done differently to avoid the situation.

I appreciated that even though it was well past our time to go home she made sure that I was okay, everyone involved was okay, and that everything was completed appropriately. I admire her for never losing her cool, getting frustrated or upset. I felt very supported and was very appreciative of her calm and collected manner throughout the whole event and debrief as well.

Rachel is truly a very deserving nurse for the DAISY Award. Every time I work with her, I see her go above and beyond for patients and staff alike.

Thank you, Rachel, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
