June 2022 Honoree
Rachel Dobkin, RN
We recently cared for a very critically ill patient with COVID pneumonia. Our care team got to know him very well through his family. We learned that he loved to spend time with his family, particularly his nephew, country music, and his dogs. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his illness after 44 days in our ICU. His story and personality really resonated with one of our star nurses, Rachel Dobkin. She took it upon herself to lead efforts in gathering funds and made a donation from the ICU nurses to the local humane society in his name. Despite the heartbreaking loss we've witnessed repeatedly through the pandemic, nurses like Rachel never forget the impact that we can have, even if the outcome isn't the desired one. She makes each moment a personal one, remembering that although end-of-life care is routine in our world, it is a life-changing experience for their families. Donating toward animal care in this gentleman's honor because of his passion is just an example of Rachel putting our mission in motion. She delivers patient-centered care with tact and heart. It is an honor to work alongside Rachel, I'm proud to call her a colleague and friend.
Thank you, Rachel, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
