Rachel Ekves-Firestone, Professional Staff Nurse Expert
I am writing this nomination on behalf of my mom, who had emergency abdominal surgery. After a short stint in the ICU, she was accepted to IPR.
Over the course of a couple of weeks, she had incredible nurses, and Rachel has been the most amazing. My mom has been fortunate to have Rachel for multiple days in IPR.
From Day 1, Rachel put my mom at ease with her caring demeanor and sense of humor. She balanced care with the skill-building needed in rehab-the sweet spot of challenge and support.
Rachel is a valued member of my mom’s care team. She provided thorough updates at report and helped Dr. K to assess whether or not her incision could be left uncovered. She also helped to advocate for different pill times so my mom could get sleep at night.
In my mom’s words: Rachel treats me like family and takes such good care of me! I love her!
We are so grateful for Rachel, and nurses like her who have made this less-than-ideal ordeal more manageable and less stressful.
As the child who lives far away, Rachel’s care provides me peace of mind!
