When I was just a new grad learning the many new and scary things that go on in the hospital, there comes a time when you are off training, and on your own. Although that was over two years ago, this amazing nurse came through for me when no one else knew what was going on.

I had a patient who had an emergency and needed to be helicoptered to another facility, and no one knew the process and how it worked. SWAT was busy, and there was no one else. I called the house supervisor, and with panic in my voice, knowing in exactly 6 minutes, the helicopter was landing and the patient needed to be ready to go, I called for help. In less than a minute, she was on the floor, walking me through it and teaching me every step along the way.

Fast forward to last week; I had another situation that wasn't an emergency but still needed a timely response. SWAT was busy with the many other responsibilities and fires that needed to be put out, so I once again reached out to this nurse for knowledge and guidance, and once again, she came through and not only helped me but flipped the situation and asked me what I should do and had me use my skills knowledge to answer my own questions.

She is an amazing nurse, leader, mentor, and role model that everyone should strive to be. One day, I wish to be in her shoes and be the person to help guide the hospital and the many nurses therein to make the world a better place like she does every day.
