Not only does she advocate for her patients, but they request that she stay with them during police reports because she provides such a safe space for patients to use their voices.
From the moment Rachel started in the ED as a new grad RN, she has proven time and time again to show her patients the utmost respect and compassion in their care. Rachel is not someone to wait for a helping hand but will be the helping hand for her patients when they need her the most.

Rachel will guarantee to provide the best care for her patients and their families by listening to their needs that may be in addition to their medical needs (e.g., new phone chargers, new clothes, getting a hold of family, pet care, etc.). Rachel will care for and transport her patients until they are transferred to their next destination (inpatient) so that she can fully report to the care team and the patient's family on their well-being.

During the pandemic, Rachel bought a landline phone to be able to communicate with one of her patients who wanted to not only stay in the loop of her care but also wanted to contact all of her family members. Rachel stayed in the room with her to teach her how to call her family members and how to contact her if she needed anything else. And this was at the peak of the pandemic when patients and staff alike were frightened by the escalating number of exposures and deaths.

In the past year, Rachel has also become a state-certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner to help provide better evidence-based care for another underserved population that is very frequent to our department. Not only does she advocate for her patients, but they request that she stay with them during police reports because she provides such a safe space for patients to use their voices. One of Rachel’s recent patients needed forensic photography completed, but the ED digital camera was broken. Rachel called her husband to have him deliver a digital camera they had at home, and she was able to deliver timely care to her patient in distress without her patient ever even knowing there was an issue. I am proud to work with such a positive and charismatic person/RN, with whom many of us strive to deliver the same altruistic care daily.
