Rachel is a kind and caring educator for the Women & Children's Division. I see her here early in the morning and late at night. She shifts her schedule to make sure the nurses are cared for and have what they need. She is dedicated to her role and works tirelessly to get the work done. Rachel is organized and marches through what needs to happen. There are new nurses in all her units and she is constantly assessing and watching for opportunities to guide them through their transition to professional nursing.

One of the projects Rachel has been working on is the breast milk donation program. Rachel collaborated with the FCC clinical director to launch this program. New mothers who need supplemental breast milk can now be supported through this program. Rachel has taken the lead on this and developed this important program. Rachel watched the data on exclusive breastfeeding, and the score was running low. She did an assessment of the team and found with the new nurses were not comfortable or confident in teaching and supporting new moms to breastfeed, so she developed breastfeeding training. This training had many layers including free online training through eBreastfeeding Friendly Consortium, and lactation training courses. She set in place a process for all the new nurses to take these training courses, to boost their confidence. These efforts have increased our scores! A Magnet story was written about this work.

Most recently, Rachel has helped cover for a new nurse, and other things to help me out while I have been away on vacation and with family emergencies. I always enjoy working with Rachel and I am so grateful she is part of our team. She is the picture of a DAISY Leader.
