Rachel showed compassion and went above and beyond for the man. He became very close to her heart and he felt like family to her.
I have been working on CIU/OBS for the last nine months and have found that our patient population does not have a long length of stay. It can become difficult to get attached to patients when they are only here for 24-48 hours or less. Rachel and I took care of a patient for 26 days straight. During that time this patient went through many difficult trials. During that time Rachel showed compassion and went above and beyond for the man. He became very close to her heart and he felt like family to her. Being a nurse means showing compassion and understanding to all patients. I believe that Rachel took this a step beyond. Even when she was not in charge of his care, he was still at the forefront of her mind. She would go into the room just to chat with the patient or his wife. The caring and love she had for this man were extraordinary. The do-diligence that she exuded for his care was amazing. I always felt that he was in the best hands. The relationship that she built with his wife I know touched her to a personnel degree. Each morning she would answer his wife's phone calls with excitement and explain in depth the plan for the day. She should be recognized for this outstanding compassion. I felt deeply touched by how much he meant to her. I believe that every patient in the hospital should have this type of care that she provided.
